At Cannes it will unleash action noir, “Special Lady,” the debut feature of Lee An-kyu. The story involves the intra-gang jealousy between a woman who used to be a prostitute and a rival who has become the team’s top killer. Lee was previously assistant director on 2008 Cannes action title “The Good, The Bad, The Weird.” Also from Kidari is “The Tooth And the Nail,” an adaptation of the Bill Ballinger novel of the same title. The action film is set in the period post Korea’s liberation from Japanese rule. The story involves a magician who searching to understand the murder of her counterfeiter former lover. M-Line is also handling “Spirits Homecoming,” the high profile drama about sex slaves (euphemistically known as ‘comfort women’) that was earlier this year was the top box office title in Korea. “Spirits” was released in the U.S. in March through Pan Media and in Australia and New Zealand. Recent sales on the title include those to Long Shong for Taiwan and to Red Apollo for mainland China.
