Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti FBI Drama ‘Manifesto’ Lands Series Order at Discovery Channel
Discovery Channel is furthering its push into scripted territory with a high-profile drama from Kevin Spacey and Dana Brunetti, as the network has greenlit FBI crime drama “Manifesto.”
The series order was announced Thursday at Discovery Communications’ upfront presentation in New York City by president Rich Ross.
“Manifesto,” which was first put into development in late 2015, will tell the story of how the FBI brought down one of the most infamous criminal masterminds in the world — Ted Kaczynski, also known as the Unabomber — from the point of view of an FBI profiler.
Spacey and Brunetti will serve as exec producers through their Trigger Street Productions banner. The pilot was penned by Andrew Sodroski, who will also exec producer, along with Troy Searer and Discovery Channel’s John Goldwyn.
“Manifesto” will trace how FBI agent Jim “Fitz” Fitzgerald challenged the old school ways with his radical new approach to intelligence gathering. Prior to Fitzgerald’s involvement, the profile of the perpetrator took a completely different direction. Fitzgerald had training as a profiler, but it was his focus on linguistics that became vital to breaking the case. He believed that the key to unlocking the true identity of the Unabomber would be found in the language of “The Manifesto,” a detailed account of some of Kaczynski’s plots.
The series marks the next big scripted push for Discovery, following the cabler’s upcoming miniseries “Harley and the Davidsons.”
For Trigger Street, the show is another drama on the production company’s slate, joining “The Resident,” a political drama in development that Spacey and Brunetti will produce with Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly. That project is the first to fall under the shingle’s two-year deal with Fox 21 and 20th Century Fox TV Studios.
For the writer Sodroski, “Manifesto” marks his foray into television. He is repped by Peter Dealbert of Pacific View Management, CAA and attorney David Fox.
