COMPLETE EVOLVE 58 COVERAGE
By Stuart Carapola on 2016-04-01 19:30:00
Welcome to PWInsider.com's live coverage of EVOLVE 58!
If you want to order this show or any of the other WWNLive.com events this weekend, you can do so by logging into or signing up for a WWNLive.com account by clicking here! WWNLive has stated this weekend's events will be up ASAP for VOD replays as well.
Lenny Leonard starts off the show by announcing that this is the highest attended EVOLVE show in history, then Rob Naylor introduces Drew Galloway and Johnny Gargano. Drew says this is the best time of the year, and they call in Mania week, but this is the biggest audience in EVOLVe history, filled with hardcore fans that have all come together in one place, and this is wrestling week. When he was first gone from WWE, he didn't know what would happen, but then he won the EVOLVE Title and grew with the indy scene, and it's because of people like the fans, and on behalf of everyone in the back, he wants to thank everyone very much. Since this is wrestling week, he got a special corner man for their match, and he presents to us, making his return to EVOLVE: Kota Ibushi, who main evented the very first EVOLVE show.
EVOLVE Tag Team Title Match: Johnny Gargano & Drew Galloway vs Anthony Nese & Caleb Konley
My stream jacks up a bit at the start of this match, and when it comes back, Galloway is dropping Konley on the ring apron with a side suplex. Galloway dodges a dive from Nese, then dodges a superkicks that winds up knocking Konley out, followed by Gargano wiping Konley out with a dive. All four men are brawling on the floor now with the champions getting the better end of the exchange. Gargano brings Nese into the ring and unloads on him in the corner with a series of chops. So Cal Val is yelling at Gargano as he unloads on Nese with right hands, and a distraction from Konley allows Nese to nail Gargano from behind and take control with a leg lariat. Gargano's in trouble as Nese and Konley trap him in their half of the ring, and Gargano is on the receiving end of a beating for several minutes until...my stream goes wacky again. When it comes back, the match is over and I have no idea what the finish was. Well, I'll go back when this goes up on VOD and do the rest, I guess.
Winners: ?
What I saw was good.
Matt Riddle comes out and demands that Timothy Thatcher comes out to face him right now, so we go right into...
EVOLVE Title Match: Timothy Thatcher vs Matt Riddle
They start out going right to the mat, with Riddle getting a leg ride and cranking on the arm before Thatcher sits out, goes on top of Riddle, and works the arm. The stream jumps suddenly and they're back on their feet circling one another, as Riddle fires off a couple of kicks and shoots in on Thatcher's legs. Thatcher sprawls and goes to an armbar, but Ridde rolls through and goes for a cross armbreaker, but Thatcher locks the hands and sits out again, trying to roll Riddle to his back. Riddle's shoulders won't go down, so Thatcher goes to an anklelock instead, and he's REALLY cranking on that bad boy. Riddle makes it to the ropes to force a break, and they start over from a neutral position. Riddle with a series of open hand strikes, Thatcher shoots in on the legs and takes Riddle down and goes to a Fujiwara armbar. Stream jumps again and Thatcher is mounted on Riddle's back and raining strikes down on him before going back to a cross armbreaker. Stream jumps and Riddle's back on top, then jumps again and has Thatcher in a rear chinlock, then jumps again and Thatcher has a nasty leglock on. Riddle makes it to the ropes, they pummel, and Thatcher gets a Greco-Roman throw and goes for the armlock again, Riddle slips out, and gets a stretch muffler on Thatcher. Riddle gets a leglock, Thatcher punches him square in the head to break and gets a leglock of his own, Riddle punches his way out, and Thatcher just blasts Riddle in the chest, takes him down, and rams knees into his ribs. Stream jumps and Thatcher's back on top of Riddle and punching him in the face. Thatcher gets a waistlock and Riddle sits out, so Thatcher goes to a Dragon sleeper and rams knees into Riddle's head. Back ontheir feet, Thatcher is unloading more strikes, cradles Riddle to his back, drives knees into his head, stream jumps again and Thatcher is on his feet looking angry. Thatcher with some European uppercuts, Riddle fires some strikes back, and plants Thatcher with a fisherman's buster and bridges it into a cradle for 2. Riddle with a running kneestrike to Thatcher's ribs, Riddle signals that he's ready to finish him, he goes for a gutwrench suplex, but Thatcher reverses and hits a series of rolling gutwrenches. Stream jumps and Thatcher has a Fujiwara armbar on Riddle, Riddle tries to reverse out, Thatcher goes to a cross armbreaker, Riddle counters to one of his own, but Thatcher is too close to the ropes and forces a break. Riddle drags Thatcher away from the ropes and reapplies, but Riddle catches him back in it and Thatcher again makes it to the ropes. Riddle wrenches on the arm on the break, and Thatcher rolls out to the floor and begins screaming. The referee takes a look at Thatcher and calls for the bell. Gabe Sapolsky comes out to check on Thatcher as Riddle grabs the belt, but the referee pulls it back and calls it a no contest.
NO CONTEST
Thatcher climbs back into the ring, and the stream jumps again a few times, and when it comes back up Thatcher is back on the mat clutching his elbow as the referees are back checking on him. What I saw of this was very good, but the issues with the stream are making this tough to really watch.
NOTE: My stream is completely out right now, and I apologize to everyone expecting a better report, but there's not much I can do about this. I promise I'll go back and cover the stuff I missed when this goes up on VOD, but I'm kind of stuck at the moment.
Marty Scurll vs Fred Yehi
My stream went out for most of the match, and comes back as they're reversing standing switches until Scurll dropkicks Yehi's knees out. Yehi responds by taking out Scurll's knees, then hits a release fisherman's buster for 2. Yehi picks his gum off the ground, puts it back in his mouth, and goes for a crossface chickenwing. Scurll cranks on Yehi's fingers, Yehi unloads with a series of forearms, Scurll with a short clothesline and goes back to the fingers, Yehi responds by stepping on Scurll's foot and then stomping on his fingers, Scurll snaps Yehi's fingers with his feet, and hits a falcon arrow suplex into the crossface chickenwing for the submission win.
The show continues on Page 2!

Sami Callihan vs Ethan Page
Callihan charges right in with a Yakuza kick, and Page goes to the floor to create some space, Sami comes out after him, and Page back suplexes him onto the ring apron. Page rolls Callihan back inside, and Callihan hits a springboard dropkick on Page as he tries to come back inside, then takes Page out with a dive to the floor. Sami with a series of chops on the outside and rams Page into the barricades, but he takes a charge and runs right into Page's boot, then Page butterfly lifts Callihan onto the barricade and turns it into a backbreaker. Page rolls into the ring and tells the referee to count Sami out, then puts the boots to Sami and hits a leaping legdrop for 1 when he rolls in under the bottom rope. Page continues dishing out the offense on Sami, then shuts down a comeback attempt with a big backdrop for 2. Sami mounts a comeback and they trade shots until they knock each other out with stereo Yakuza kicks. Sami starts to build momentum and unloads with more shots on Page, but Page again turns it around with a full rotation back suplex into a flapjack and then a sitout powerbomb for 2. Page mounts Callihan in the corner and goes for punches, Sami slips out and powerbombs Page for 2, then catches him in the stretch muffler, but Page makes it to the ropes. Page rolls out to the apron and Sami yells at him to quit, but Page...well, responds that this is not likely. Page with a nice series of moves out of nowhere for 2, and he picks Sami up for a package piledriver attempt, but Sami fights out, backdrops Page, rolls through a sunset flip attempt, and goes for the stretch muffler. Page tries to fight his way out, but sami repeatedly stomps on Page's face and drills him with the diving forearm off the ropes for 3.
Winner: Sami Callihan
Great match! Page has really improved a lot in the last year, and he had a great showing here against Sami.
Ricochet vs TJ Perkins
They do some chain wrestling to start, then do some armlock reversals. They go into the lucha stuff and Ricochet headscissors Perkins and dropkicks him to the floor. Perkins comes back in and Ricochet dominates him on the mat, then plants him in the mat with a spinebuster and...does the People's Standing Moonsault for 2. Perkins rolls through on Ricochet and gets a leglock for 2, then puts Ricochet's shoulders to the mat with a Greco-Roman knucklelock. Perkins hits a kneeDT and goes to a surfboard, Ricochet gets out, but Perkins hangs Ricochet in the Tree of Woe, then distracts the referee so he can grind his boot into Ricochet's ding ding and dropkick his knee. Perkins goes to a headscissors, Ricochet rolls out, so Perkins headscissors him back to the mat and...the stream goes down again. When it comes back up, Ricochet seems to have gotten a close 2 count and the fans are saying that whatever just happened was awesome. The stream goes out again, and the match is over when it comes back up after a couple of refreshes.
Winner:
We're already on to entrances for the next match, so let's go right into it...
Zack Sabre, Jr vs Will Osprey
They start off with some mat wrestling as Sabre kind of ties Osprey up with a series of holds, and the stream goes out yet again. We're back and Osprey uses some lucha stuff to outmaneuver Sabre and dropkick him into next week. Osprey gets Sabre in a three quarter nelson, but Sabre gets free and avoids a leapfrog by ducking under and yanking him down by the ankle. Sabre gets an O'Connor roll for 2, Osprey tries a springboard, and Sabre catches him in a full nelson and bridges into a dragon suplex for 2. More streaming issues, and both men are down on the mat when it comes back up. Osprey connects with a dropkick and a standing moonsault for 2, then takes Sabre out with a dive when he rolls out to the floor. Osprey rolls Sabre back into the ring and covers for 2, stream goes out, and Sabre has Osprey in a modified dragon sleeper when we come back. Osprey gets out, hits a running shooting star press, and springboards out of the corner with a moonsault for 2. Osprey goes for a short clothesline, Sabre rolls him up for 2, gets another rollup for 2, and the stream goes out. Entrances for the main event are going when it comes back up.
Winners:
So then, we're on to...
Chris Hero & Tommy End vs Drew Gulak & Tracy Williams
The stream goes out, and End and Williams are going at it when it comes back up. End tags Hero in, and he exchanges armlocks with Gulak. They trade chops and then Gulak gets a series of rollups on Hero that only get 2 counts. Stream goes out, End and Williams are going at it when it comes back up, End gets the advantage and then Hero tags in and hits a senton for 2. Stream drops, comes back up and Hero is beating Gulak up on the floor before going back inside and...stream again. Now we're back and Williams has End in a surfboard, then rolls him to his belly and drops knees into his back. Williams whips End to the corner and charges in with a kneestrike, then Gulak tags in and dishes out some punishment until End fights his way free with a nice series of strikes, and makes the hot tag to Hero. Hero comes in and cleans house, Gulak and Williams double team Hero, but Hero flips out to the apron, comes back in, and lays both opponents out with a series of strikes. Hero hits the cyclone kill for 2 on Williams and sets up for the roaring elbow, but Gulak comes in to make the save. End runs in to even the odds and they clear Gulak out, then hit a vertical suplex/kneestrike to the head combo on Williams for 2. Series of charging strikes to Williams, and a pair of roaring elbows/kicks on Williams for 2. End unloads with a series of kicks to Williams, but Williams with an inverted atomic drop and the Gulak comes off the top with a clothesline. Williams gets End in a rear naked choke as Gulak holds Hero off, but Hero breaks through and suplexes Gulak onto Williams to break up the hold. End with a series of martial arts kicks on Gulak, but Williams sneaks in and nails End, and Hero comes in to even the odds again as he and End take it to Gulak and Williams. All four men are brawling in the ring and Hero piledrives Williams as End gives Gulak a brainbuster, and they both makes stereo covers for 2. Hero and End go for stereo cradle piledrivers, but Gulak and Williams reverse to stereo submissions, then get stero crucifix pinning combinations for 2. End and Hero knock Gulak and Williams silly with a series of strikes, hit a spike piledriver on Williams, then a series of hard strikes to Gulak. Gulak suplexes Hero out to the floor, End hits a leaping kneestrike and covers, but Gulak is out at 2. Gulak leaps into a dragon sleeper and End quickly taps out, and that's it out of nowhere.
Winners: Drew Gulak & Tracy Williams
Great match to close the show and a hell of a back and forth war. TJ Perkins runs out to congratulate his buddies. Hero looks disappointed and walks off on End. Stokely Hathaway comes out and joins TJ Perkins and brings him to the back.
As I said earlier, the stream's been really bad, and they even acknowledged it on commentary during one of the parts I was able to catch. I'll go back and update this report when it's on VOD, apologies for the poor quality of this report. Hopefully everything's sorted out by the time CZW's up later tonight.
