Sony Pictures Television Backs ‘Suffragette’ Producer Faye Ward’s Fable
LONDON — Sony Pictures Television has taken a minority stake in Fable Pictures, the U.K. film and television production company run by creative director Faye Ward, who produced “Suffragette” alongside Alison Owen, and managing director Eugenio Perez.
Fable will focus on high-end drama series that can travel internationally, with SPT distributing around the globe. Its current project is film “Stan and Ollie,” written by Jeff Pope, directed by Jon S. Baird, and starring Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly. It is due to shoot later this year.
Ward’s other credits include feature film “Jane Eyre” (Focus Features), TV series “Small Island” (BBC), Golden Globe nominated series “Dancing on the Edge” (BBC), “Toast” (BBC) and episodes of “The Crown” for Left Bank Pictures and Netflix.
Ward said: “Fable Pictures’ vision is to collaborate with strong writers and directors to tell stories that are ambitious, illuminating and entertaining across film and television. This deal will enable us to focus on what we do best, and pour our energy into developing a number of new projects with talent we are incredibly excited about.”
Andrea Wong, SPT’s president of international production, said: “Faye is one of the U.K.’s most promising and ambitious drama producers and we can’t wait to help her achieve her vision for Fable Pictures.”
Wong added: “We are increasing our drama footprint in recognition of the rise in demand for international high-quality drama. This will build on the success we are enjoying with series such as Left Bank’s upcoming Netflix drama ‘The Crown’ and ‘The Halcyon’ for ITV, as well as Playmaker’s ‘Love Child’ and award-winning ‘The Code.'”
