‘Flawed’ Movie Adaptation Moving Forward at Warner Bros. With ‘Zoo’ Writer
Warner Bros. is moving forward on its sci-fi film “Flawed,” with “Zoo” writer Rebekah F. Smith tapped to adapt the novel, Variety has learned exclusively.
The studio began developing the project in October when Warner Bros. optioned the movie rights to “Flawed,” the first young adult novel from “P.S., I Love You” author Cecelia Ahern. “Flawed” will be published by Feiwel and Friends (an imprint of the Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group) on April 5.
Wendy Finerman and Michelle Chydzik will produce the movie. Finerman and Ahern have a long-standing relationship that began when Finerman produced Hilary Swank’s “P.S. I Love You,” which grossed $156 million worldwide for Warner Bros. in 2007.
“Flawed” is set in a world where anyone dubbed disobedient is deemed “flawed,” branded with F tattoos and forced to live as second-class citizens. When a popular teenager who’s living a perfect life attempts to stand up for a “flawed” passenger on a bus, she’s not only deemed “flawed” herself, but becomes an unlikely poster girl for a growing rebellion.
Smith, a native of Australia, is currently a writer on the CBS show “Zoo,” which has been renewed for a second season. She is represented by Verve and managed by Kaplan Perrone.
