Directed by Zhang Yimou, the film stars Matt Damon and tells the story of an elite force making a valiant stand for humanity on the world’s most iconic structure. It’s the first English-language feature for Yimou, who was behind such visually breathtaking films as Hero and House of Flying Daggers, and it’s the largest film ever shot entirely in China. The pic will be released in 3D and also stars Pedro Pascal, Tian Jing, Andy Lau and Willem Dafoe. While The Great Wall is moving from a very competitive November 23 date that also will have the holdover of Warner Bros’ Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the Damon title moves to a weekend where it will square off against Sony’s Bad Boys 3 and 20th Century Fox’s threequel Maze Runner: The Death Cure.
