Paladin has acquired rights to Michael Damian’s dance-driven drama High Strung after the pic premiered over the weekend at the Santa Barbara Film Festival. The plan is to release the film theatrically on more than 100 screens nationwide April 8. The Orchard has home entertainment rights and will launch the film later this spring. Bloom Media handled worldwide sales, with Disney International acquiring the majority of international rights.
Written and produced by Damian and his wife Janeen, the film follows Ruby Adams (ballerina Keenan Kampa), a classical dancer with a scholarship to one of New York’s performing arts schools who meets Johnnie Blackwell (Nicholas Galitzine), an aspiring British musician who plays for money on subway platforms. Faced with adversity, they join forces and, with the help of a dance crew called The SwitchSteps, prep for a competition that unites their disparate worlds. Jane Seymour, Sonoya Mizuno, Comfort Fedoke and Ian Eastwood co-star, and Step Up 3D choreographer Dave Scott is also featured in and choreographed the dance routines.
