IS "AGENT CARTER" SETTING UP A HYDRA ORIGIN STORY IN SEASON 2?
Last night's episode of "Agent Carter" introduced a ton of amazing new mysteries for its second season. They brought back Black Widow baddie Dottie Underwood, they teed up the mystery of a frozen, radioactive woman, and they revealed a secret society that looked way too much like Hydra.
If you're current on "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season three, you know that Hydra was reintroduced in a very unusual way. After Simmons was transported though the monolith to another planet, Fitz started researching all the mythology surrounding her teleportation. What he uncovered was the very alien and ancient origins of Hydra.
The symbol from that video also appeared on the two-hour premiere of "Agent Carter." It first showed up in the hands of Dottie Underwood, who was attempting to steal it from a safety deposit box. Why would a Black Widow operative want to steal a seemingly insignificant silver lapel pin? The symbol was seen again on the outside of the meeting hall where Calvin Chadwick was summoned for a secret gathering.
The men in this secret meeting were also wearing lapel pins that contained the same symbol. During the round table discussion, these men joked about profiting from the stock market crash of 1929, and boasting in causing it themselves. Clearly these guys are part of a secret organization that has its hand in the affairs of the world, a la Hydra.
Lastly Peggy finds one of these pins in the car of the man sent to kill her. When she sees it, she recognizes it. Did she see it while working with the 107th in Germany during World War II? Was it a part of Red Skull's base of operations? Or did she recognize it from the pin that Dottie stole? Either way, the symbol from the club and the pins are the exact same symbol from Hydra in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," which means Peggy, who thought Hydra was defeated when Captain America killed Red Skull, will have to take down Hydra on her own.
The inclusion of this symbol on "Agent Carter" further solidifies its connection to not only the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but "Captain America," and "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
"Agent Carter" airs Tuesdays at 9/8C on ABC.
