Productions has boarded a movie about Mary Magdalene, reputed to have been one of Jesus’ most devout followers, from “The King’s Speech” producer See-Saw Films. Universal will release the pic, titled “Mary Magdalene,” in all international territories apart from Australia and New Zealand, where Transmission Films is handling. Film4 co-developed the film. Garth Davis will direct the movie, which will shoot later this year for delivery in 2017. Davis also teamed with See-Saw on “Lion,” starring Rooney Mara, Nicole Kidman and Dev Patel, which shot last year. Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett penned the script and See-Saw’s Iain Canning and Emile Sherman will produce. Goslett and John Cameron Mitchell co-wrote “How to Talk to Girls at Parties,” which is being produced by Little Punk and See-Saw. UPIP managing director Peter Kujawski and co-managing director Robert Walak, who will oversee the Mary Magdalene pic, negotiated the deal with See-Saw, along with UPIP business affairs head Alexander Jooss.
