Syfy’s ‘Hunters’: Alien Terrorists Are To Blame When A Wife Goes Missing – TCA Reel
“The terrorists we’re chasing, aren’t human,” exclaims an authoritative voice in the TCA reel for Syfy’s Hunters. The show from The Walking Dead EP Gale Anne Hurd and 12 Monkeys EP Natalie Chaidez follows Baltimore FBI agent Flynn Carroll (Nathan Phillips, Wolf Creek) whose better half disappears. His search leads him to a highly-classified government organization – the Exo-Terrorism Unit (ETU). They track and fight alien terrorists. Flynn joins in on the search, but the person who he’s fighting alongside, Regan (Britne Oldford of American Horror Story), she might even be an alien herself. Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck) also stars as the dangerously unhinged terrorist, McCarthy. As McMahon pointed out at this morning’s session, “The aliens come in human form.”
Hunters began its trek when Hurd brought the Whitley Strieber’s book Alien Hunter to Chaidez. She wanted to take the alien genre to another level, so “this led me to the allegory of terrorists and terrorism which is what Hunters is about,” said Chaidez. She gave props to Syfy for allowing the EPs to create a show that “wrestles with the important issues of our time,” from suicide bombing to detainment.
“The show is about fear, it’s about monsters. Gale said that it’s the next step of Walking Dead: What if a monster is inside or next to us?,” added Chaidez.
Hurd added, “We want to make aliens scaring again. We want them to be compelling, you don’t quite know what you’ll see from them next. There’s a real mystery to solve.”
Hunters premieres on Monday, April 11 at 10PM ET/PT. The Universal Cable Productions series runs over 13 episodes.
