The award will be presented at the 53rd Annual International Cinematographers Guild Publicists Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Feb. 26. Ortenberg has headed Open Road since its inception in 2011. Its journalism drama “Spotlight” has grossed $29 million and won the best film of the year awards from the American Film Institute, the Gotham Awards and the National Board of Review. Other Open Road films have included “The Grey,” “End of Watch,” Nightcrawler,” “Chef” and “The Nut Job.” It will also release “Fifty Shades of Black,” “Triple 9,” “Mother’s Day,” “Snowden,” “Sleepless Night,” “Bleed for This” and “Blazing Samurai.” ”Tom is the perfect example of the executive who understands that the very best motion pictures need equally creative publicity and marketing to achieve the success they deserve,” said Henri Bollinger, Awards Committee chairman. ICG president Steven Poster said, ”In a short time Tom Ortenberg has turned Open Road into a supremely successful production and distribution organization. Last year, ‘Nightcrawler’ had everyone buzzing and this year’s ‘Spotlight’ is many critics’ top choice. He has the touch.” Prior to the formation of Open Road, Ortenberg was president of theatrical films at The Weinstein Company and Lionsgate. Previous recipients of the motion picture showmanship award include Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger, John Lasseter, James Cameron, and Judd Apatow.
