Sorkin has been working on the script for the project, based on Molly Bloom’s memoir, since 2014 with Gordon. The duo worked together on “Steve Jobs,” for which Sorkin received a Writers Guild of America screenplay nomination in the adapted category on Wednesday. Sorkin is one of Hollywood’s best-known writers. He won a WGA award and the Oscar for adapted screenplay in 2011 for “The Social Network,” received WGA nominations for “Moneyball” and “The American President” and won a 2001 WGA Award for “The West Wing.” Former Sony Pictures chief Pascal, who has a first-look deal at Sony, recently came on board the project as a producer. Bloom’s memoir, published in 2014 by HarperCollins imprint It Books, is titled “Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker.” Bloom was a top-tier skier who headed to Los Angeles after not qualifying for the Olympics and became an an organizer of underground poker games for Hollywood players including Ben Affleck, Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire before being arrested by the FBI.
