variety.com/2016/film/news/star-wars-monopoly-rey-1201673192/Rey is awakening the force in the new “Star Wars”-themed Monopoly game. After facing public outcry for excluding Daisy Ridley’s female lead in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” from the classic board game, Hasbro has decided to include her in the latest edition of Star Wars: Monopoly. “We love our fans’ passion for Rey, and are happy to share that we will be including her in the Monopoly: Star Wars game, available later this year,” the company said in a statement released on Facebook and Twitter late Tuesday night. Hasbro previously said that the Monopoly game, which was released in September, didn’t feature Rey in order to avoid spoilers. “The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movie’s release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance,” the company initially said on Monday. “Fans will see more Rey product hitting store shelves this month, including 6-inch and 12-inch Rey action figures. We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product lines.” The game currently features Finn, Kylo Ren, Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader figures. The updated version will be sold later this year. Rey has been left out of other “Force Awakens” toys and merchandise as well. She was MIA in a six-pack of action figures and a Millennium Falcon play set. “Star Wars” fans took to Twitter to voice concerns about the underrepresentation of Rey, tweeting complaints with the hashtags #WheresRey.
