"Rambo" creator David Morrell's long in-development "Spider-Man: Frost" story saw print this month at Marvel, but the author isn't happy with the final product. On his personal Facebook page, Morrell expressed disappointment with changes he said were made to his script for the second part of the story, published this week as "Amazing Spider-Man" #700.2. "Someone at Marvel changed my captions, added weak jokes, repeated captions, deleted captions from panels that needed them, and inserted one caption that contradicts the theme," Morrell wrote.
"When I saw this early version, I sent three pages of corrections to Marvel," Morrell's post continues, clarifying that he didn't have objections to the first part of the Klaus Janson-illustrated story, released last week as "Amazing Spider-Man" #700.1. "I was assured that my changes had been made, but for whatever reason, the terrible version got printed, destroying the poignant tone of part one."
Morrell previously revealed that he finished the script for Spider-Man: Frost" in 2007, the same year he made his comic book debut with Marvel miniseries "Captain America: The Chosen." In the comments of his Facebook post, Morrell said that though he finds the comic book medium "exciting," the "Spider-Man: Frost" experience has soured him on further writing in the field: "This has been such a disappointing experience that I'm finished with writing in this form."
Also in the comments, Morrell stated that he doesn't blame the book's editor (Tom Brennan is credited as editor on the issues, Stephen Wacker as senior editor) for the changes. "It's not the editor's fault," he wrote. "It's a corporate thing. No one knows who did what." Morrell is best known for his fiction novels including "First Blood," which was adapted into the "Rambo" series of films starring Sylvester Stallone.
