Michael Grandage’s ‘Genius’ to World Premiere at Berlin Film Festival
LONDON — Michael Grandage’s “Genius,” starring Colin Firth, Jude Law and Nicole Kidman, will world premiere at the 66th Berlin Film Festival in February. The film, which was scripted by John Logan, tells the true story of the complex relationship between literary giant Thomas Wolfe and iconic editor Max Perkins.
Another world premiere at Berlin will be sci-fi thriller “Midnight Special,” starring Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton and Kirsten Dunst. Director Jeff Nichols, who broke through with “Mud” and “Take Shelter,” delivers a tale about a nationwide manhunt for a father and his son who has supernatural powers.
Also world premiering is Vincent Perez’s “Alone in Berlin,” starring Brendan Gleeson, Emma Thompson and Daniel Bruhl. The story centers on an ordinary couple living in Berlin during World War II. When their only child is killed fighting at the front, their loss propels them into an extraordinary act of resistance.
Variety reported yesterday that all three titles were on Berlin’s radar, and were likely to be selected (see full report here).
