MARVEL CONFIRMS BENDIS & MARQUEZ ON "CIVIL WAR II"
As announced via the 2016 Diamond Retailer Calendar and subsequently confirmed by ComicBook.com, the creative team for Marvel's "Civil War II" will be writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist David Marquez, the current "Invincible Iron Man" team. CBR News has independently confirmed the news with Marvel.
Based on the information on the calendar, "Civil War II" looks to debut in May 2016, the same month Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Civil War" will be released in theaters. Marvel has informed CBR News that more details are coming soon.
Today's news follows Marvel mailing a postcard to retailers in early October promoting what certainly appeared to be a forthcoming "Civil War" sequel, with the image of Iron Man facing off against the current Captain America, Sam Wilson.
Bendis is a veteran of major Marvel events, having written "House of M," "Secret Invasion" and "Age of Ultron." He and Marquez have collaborated on multiple Marvel titles, mainly various iterations of "Ultimate Spider-Man" starring Miles Morales.
The original "Civil War" ran from 2006-2007, and stands as one of Marvel's most successful publishing events. Written by Mark Millar and illustrated by Steve McNiven, the story centered around an ideological and physical conflict between teams of heroes led by Iron Man and Captain America (Steve Rogers), which serves as inspiration for next spring's "Captain America" sequel. The publisher revisited the concept this past summer during the "Secret Wars" event, with a miniseries by Charles Soule and Leinil Yu.
