TIFF: Saban Nabs 'The Confirmation' Starring Clive Owen (Exclusive)
Maria Bello and Patton Oswalt also star in the drama.
Saban Films has acquired North American rights to The Confirmation, starring Clive Owen.
Great Point Media’s drama, which also stars Maria Bello and Patton Oswalt, marks the directorial debut of Nebraska screenwriter Bob Nelson.
Nelson also wrote the screenplay for The Confirmation, which centers on eight-year-old Anthony (Jaeden Lieberher) who has to spend the weekend with his alcoholic carpenter father Walt (Owen). Their weekend starts out a bit rocky, but they soon begin to form a strong bond, bringing out the best in both father and son.
Saban plans to open the film theatrically in spring 2016.
“Clive Owen and Jaeden Lieberher made an immediate heartfelt connection as father and son that resonates with audiences," says Saban Films president Bill Bromiley. "Their performances enhance Bob Nelson’s superior script and direction. The Confirmation will be a strong addition to the Saban slate.”
Bungalow Media + Entertainment’s Todd Hoffman produced with Nelson while Robert Friedman, Robert Halmi Jr. and Jim Reeve executive produced.
Bromiley and Ness Saban negotiated the deal on behalf of Saban while WME Global and CAA negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers.
Saban's recent releases include Some Kind of Beautiful and American Heist. The company's upcoming films include Tom Tykwer’s A Hologram for the King starring Tom Hanks, Man Up starring Simon Pegg and Lake Bell; I am Wrath with John Travolta; Backtrack starring Adrien Brody and Sam Neill; and USS Indianapolis starring Nicolas Cage.
