The action star who has 95 million Facebooks likes announced via Instagram that he is doing a third installment of the xXx franchise, with filming set to start before year’s end. This would be Diesel’s first return the decade-dormant franchise since 2002’s original xXx, when he starred as extreme-sports athlete who is blackmailed into becoming a government operative Xander Cage. He sat out the second pic in the series, 2005’s xXx: State Of The Union, in which Ice Cube starred. Now, apparently, Diesel is poised to return. xXx made $142 million domestic on the heels of the original Fast And The Furious. And of course, Diesel is running hot again with Furious 7 becoming the fifth-biggest movie of all time worldwide. No cast or director is set for xXx3, but Rob Cohen helmed the original and Lee Tamahori the sequel. Revolution released both. Diesel says filming is slated to begin on the threequel in December in the Philippines. Stay tuned.

Jackson and UFC star Conor McGregor to its cast, Vin Diesel’s third “xXx” film, “The Return of Xander Cage” is set to boast even more heavy-hitting action stars, as Columbia Pictures has reportedly tapped action movie legends Jet Li and Tony Jaa to star in the film. According to Twitch Film, Jaa and Li, along with Indian film star Deepika Padukone (who they say will be “lining up with the bad guys”), have joined the “xXx 3″ cast in yet-to-be-determined roles. Jaa previously worked with Diesel for “Furious 7,” which has gone on to be the fifth highest-grossing movie of all time. “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” began shooting in the Philippines in December, and will move production to Toronto for February, where it will shoot through to May. Directed by D.J. Caruso, “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” hasn’t been given a release date.

Samuel L. Jackson is on board to return to the series with D.J. Caruso directing. F. Scott Frazier is penning the script. While financing is in place, a distributor is still trying to be worked out. The first two in the series were released by Sony Pictures. Joe Roth is producing the movie with his new partner Jeff Kirschenbaum as well as Diesel and his producing partner, Samantha Vincent, who is also his sister. The original pic starred Diesel as an extreme sports athlete recruited to be a spy and use his unique skill set to stop a global terrorist. The movie grossed $142 million domestically. A sequel followed in 2005, but it was made without Diesel and underwhelmed at the box office. Diesel has since warmed to the idea of returning to the franchise with production set to start later in January. Plot details on the pic are unknown. Dobrev recently appeared in “The Final Girls” and she also completed production on “Crash Pad” with Domhnall Gleeson and Christina Applegate. She is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment. Rose is wrapping up shooting the sequel to Keanu Reeves’ action movie “John Wick.” She is repped by Special Artists Agency, art2perform and Ziffren Brittenham.
