The film will screen first in September at the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness program, followed by theatrical release on October 9. In Yakuza Apocalypse, a powerful yakuza boss also happens to be a vampire who recognizes no restraints. When he’s offed by members of a rival yakuza organization angry at his hunting habits, he passes his powers on to his second in command, Kageyama. Kageyama then sets out to avenge his mentor’s death, do battle with a shady and powerful foreign crime syndicate and become the new yakuza overlord. The filmmaker directs from a script by Yoshitaka Yamaguchi. Hayato Ichihara, Yayan Ruhian (The Raid films) and Lily Franky star, while Yoshinori Chiba, Shinichiro Masuda, Shinjiro Nishimura and Misako Saka produce. The deal was negotiated by Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films on behalf of the filmmakers, and by Ian Puente, VP and General Counsel, on behalf of Samuel Goldwyn Films.
