It will be the company's first dedicated channel in the world, with more launches expected in key Asian markets soon via a partnership with HBO Asia.
DreamWorks Animation will launch the DreamWorks Channel in Thailand on Saturday.
It will be the animation studio's first dedicated linear TV channel in the world. It was made possible by a deal with local pay TV operator CTH and HBO Asia.
The new kids and family channel will launch in English on Aug. 1, followed by a fully dubbed Thai version in HD in September.
Launch content will include DreamWorks Animation original series All Hail King Julien, starring characters from the Madagascar films, The Adventures of Puss in Boots, featuring the sword-fighting cat from the Shrek franchise, along with Casper’s Scare School and Dinotrux. A daily morning preschool block, DreamWorks Junior, featuring new productions of Raa Raa The Noisy Lion and Guess with Jess will also air on the channel. More original series are expected to be added in early 2016, the company said.
"DreamWorks is home to great animation and storytelling, and we are excited to bring our content all together in one place," said Eric Ellenbogen, co-head of International TV & DreamWorks Classics in a statement. "The channel is available for kids and their families to watch wherever and whenever they want."
The DreamWorks Animation channel launch in Thailand follows an announcement last December of a deal between DreamWorks and HBO Asia focused on planned channel launches across Asia. Channels in other key markets in the region are expected to be unveiled in the near future.
Said Jonathan Spink, CEO of HBO Asia: "With our extensive reach across Asia, strong relationships with our network of affiliates and partners, and experience in distributing other channels, we are excited to be working with DreamWorks to bring their beloved characters and stories to families all across Asia."
