deadline.com/2015/07/john-friedberg-joins-stx-entertainment-as-president-intl-sales-1201483520/QED’s John Friedberg Joins STX Entertainment As President, Intl Sales John Friedberg, who has overseen sales and distribution for QED for the past ten years, has just come aboard STX Entertainment as its president of international sales. He joined the ranks this week in what is seen as a push into handling their own international sales for film and TV. That would be a decided turn as the company had previously sold off its rights. In his new post, he will oversee all aspects of the company’s international sales strategy for films produced and distributed by STX and develop partnerships for international acquisitions. He has done basically the same for QED in the past before joining Bill Block in Block Entertainment where he most recently served. He will hit the ground running and start hiring a team of international sales people for STX. And he’ll have a slate of films to do this with as the company is gearing up to produce and distribute roughly 12 to 15 pictures a year after they did a partnership with Huayi Brothers this past April. The first four STX films have been sold off already — including the thriller The Gift from Blumhouse which releases on August 7, the crime thriller Secret In Their Eyes starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts will be released on October 23, the horror film The Boy on January 22 and The Free State of Jones starring Matthew McConaughey which comes out March 11. But Friedberg and his team will start on the other high profiles the studio is developing, including Mile 22, directed by Peter Berg and starring Mark Wahlberg and the untitled Jackie Chan action drama directed by Martin Campbell (also known as The Foreigner).
