Netflix welcomes dramas starring Dan Stevens, Jennifer Lawrence and Angelina Jolie this July.
With summer heating up and humidity on the rise, Netflix is offering a handful of new titles to keep indoor streaming as relaxed and enjoyable as ever. This July, new titles featuring A-list stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Angelina Jolie are making their way onto the streaming platform, as are some new cult classics and genre favorites. Check out all of the July additions to Netflix below, plus Indiewire's picks on what to stream.
Available 7/1
"Saw V" (2008)
"Grandma's Boy" (2006)
"Underworld: Evolution" (2006)
Available 7/9
"Serena" (2015)
Available 7/14
"Goodbye to All That" (2014)
Found footage horror films may sound like a tired cliche at this point, but leave it to horror guru Jason Blum and indie master Mark Duplass to prove that statement wrong. Streaming exclusively on Netflix, "Creep" stars the film's co-writer-director Patrick Brice (currently in theaters with sexy comedy "The Overnight") as Aaron, a strapped-for-cash adult who answers an online add for a filming job. When he meets his employer (Duplass) at his remote cabin in the woods, the seemingly-innocent job turns into a bizarre nightmare. The film premiered at the 2014 SXSW Film Festival.
Available 7/16
Indiewire Pick: "Changeling" (2008)
"Changeling"
Clint Eastwood's directorial career over the past several years has been all over the place. Case in point: For every "Mystic River" there's been a "Hereafter." But while the director exploded earlier this year thanks to action hit "American Sniper," his eye for atmospheric drama in prestige pics like "Changeling" really proves why he deserves his Oscar-winning title. Angelina Jolie earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her heartbreaking turn as Christine Collins, a 1928 single mother who is reunited with her missing son only to realize the police have brought her an imposter. As Collins fights the system to find the truth, her personal freedom is comprised and Eastwood makes every twist a visceral dramatic turn.
Available 7/25
Indiewire Pick: "The Guest" (2014)
'The Guest'
Picturehouse
'The Guest'
In a throwback to the horror/home invasion thrillers of the '80s that would make John Carpenter proud, "The Guest" stars Dan Stevens ("Downtown Abbey") as a war veteran who shakes up the lives of an assuming family after he begins crashing on their couch. While claiming to be a friend of their oldest son who died in battle, the eponymous guest's real motives remain ambiguous until a top secret government program starts hunting him down. Cue the bumping, synth-laden soundtrack and a handful of exhilaratingly directed action sequences that you won't soon forget.
Available 7/30
"Almost Mercy" (2015)
