EuropaCorp Taps Chris Coggins As VP Production & Development
EuropaCorp has hired development executive Chris Coggins as VP Production and Development at EuropaCorp USA, adding to the exec ranks of Luc Besson’s company that continues to ramp up its activity on this side of the Atlantic. Coggins arrives from Rock Paper Scissors Entertainment, where she served as Head of Development and helped spearhead the company’s new-media projects for the Oscars, HBO and Amazon. She also worked at Allison Shearmur Productions on titles including Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, Lovely Monster and Candy Store and started her career at Escape Artists/Sony working on pics like The Pursuit Of Happyness, The Taking Of Pelham 123 and The Great Debaters.
Coggins will report to EuropaCorp USA president of production Lisa Ellzey and work alongside director of development Ryan Wickers. “We are so pleased Chris will be joining our team,” said Ellzey, who was promoted in November to lead the U.S. film operations. “Her dedication and passion for film is obvious and I can’t wait to begin working together to expand EuropaCorp’s ever-growing slate.”
In October, EuropaCorp closed on a $400M credit line — plus a $50M second credit facility and a $150M accordion — to go along with a five-year, $450M credit facility signed at Cannes 2014. That was to help finance its slate of English-language films and the U.S. arm has been chugging ever since. It’s current pipeline includes The Transporter Refueled, set for a September 4 release; Shut In starring Naomi Watts; the comedy Nine Lives directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starring Kevin Spacey and Jennifer Garner; action-thriller The Lake directed by Steven Quale and starring Sullivan Stapleton and JK Simmons; and Besson’s own sci-fi adaptation Valerian starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne.
The new productions will be distributed in the U.S. through Red, EuropaCorp’s joint venture with Relativity.
