Justin Lin's untitled Bourne film will open in theaters Aug. 14, 2015. The next chapter in the action-spy franchise returns Jeremy Renner in the role of Aaron Cross following the 2012 box office success of The Bourne Legacy. It's the first time Lin has directed a Bourne pic for Universal. He's most famous for directing the Fast & Furious movies, but isn't at the helm of Fast & Furious 7, which has become shrouded in tragedy following the death of Paul Walker in a car crash during a hiatus from shooting. Longtime Bourne producer Frank Marshall is returning for the next installment, and will produce alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate. Lin will also produce for his Perfect Storm Entertainment.Inspired by author Robert Ludlum's book series, the Bourne film franchise underwent a major transformation with the departure of star Matt Damon and arrival of Renner in the lead role in The Bourne Legacy. variety.com/2014/film/news/andrew-baldwin-bourne-1201147808/After tapping Justin Lin as the latest director to tackle the Jason Bourne franchise, Universal has now hired Andrew Baldwin to pen the next untitled Bourne pic, which stars Jeremy Renner. Plot details are unknown at this time – other than it would follow Renner’s Aaron Cross, who was trained in the same super-spy program that Matt Damon’s Bourne went through before also being double-crossed. U had set Anthony Peckham to write the latest draft, but the studio and the director switched mindsets after Lin was attached, deciding to look at scribes who better fit Lin’s vision for the franchise. Baldwin is a rising star among young screenwriters. He has already penned “The Outsider” and “Bastille Day” starring Idris Elba, both of which are still in the development stages. Lin, Frank Marshall, Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner will produce the pic, which is set to bow Aug. 14, 2015. Baldwin is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content.

www.deadline.com/2014/06/bourne-sequel-release-date-change-2016-justin-lin-jeremy-renner/Universal Moves Justin Lin’s ‘Bourne’ Sequel To 2016 Universal Moves Justin Lin’s ‘Bourne’ Sequel To 2016.Justin Lin (Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6) is still directing the fifth installment of Universal’s Bourne franchise, but it won’t be hitting theaters next summer after all. The studio has pushed back the untitled Bourne sequel nearly a year from August 14, 2015 to July 15, 2016. In its place on the schedule Universal today also slated the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton. So far Uni’s only competition that weekend is another blockbuster five-quel: Fox’s Ice Age 5. Jeremy Renner is set to return as super spy Aaron Cross, with Frank Marshall producing again alongside Jeffrey Weiner and Ben Smith for Captivate Entertainment. Lin is also producing for Perfect Storm Entertainment. He was hired last November to helm the film. Bourne Legacy grossed $276 million worldwide in 2012 and introduced Renner’s new protagonist to the franchise based on Robert Ludlum’s novels.

variety.com/2014/film/news/matt-damon-jason-bourne-to-return-1201352015/Matt Damon Confirms His Return to Jason Bourne Franchise Matt Damon will be back as Bourne. After Variety reported in September that Universal was in the early stages of bringing Damon and Jason Bourne director Paul Greengrass back for another installment, Damon confirmed to E! News his return to the role while celebrating the return of Ben Affleck and his “Project Greenlight” Friday night. “Well, [Damon's] going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I’ve just completely lost any semblance of physical fitness,” Affleck told E! News. “Yes, next year,” Damon said when asked for clarification. “It’ll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that’s all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes.” The next film will mark Damon and Greengrass’ third collaboration, and the fifth film in the series. Doubt sprouted over the return of Damon and Greengrass during the summer, with Greengrass telling Deadline that he didn’t believe he could make another Jason Bourne film that would be as good as his last two. Universal, though, is currently developing an untitled film set in the Bourne world with Jeremy Renner returning to play Aaron Cross and Justin Lin to direct. That movie is currently slated for July 2016, though it’s unclear if that film will stay there or if the other Bourne movie will take its place. Damon’s Bourne movies grossed nearly $1 billion at the box office in between 2002 and 2007. Variety broke the news the news last month that Greengrass, who last directed “Captain Phillips,” will direct Berlin Wall drama “The Tunnels.”
