The channel, available for the first time in the UK, will be carried on BT’s YouView platform. AMC execs had been in talks with various Pay TV platforms for some months over carriage for its channels. The move into the UK marks the latest international expansion. The channel is now available in more than 125 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. AMC UK will exclusively broadcast spin-off series Fear the Walking Dead at launch and will subsequently air other AMC series’ as well as both series and features from other content providers. “AMC has become synonymous with bold, dramatic original programming of the highest quality,” commented Ed Carroll, AMC Networks chief operating officer. “We’re excited to partner with BT to launch AMC for the first time in the U.K. This agreement highlights the strong demand for our channels and will enable us to continue developing a far-reaching platform for AMC’s original programming.” The deal also marks the latest in BT ambitious plans to offer its customers a diverse content offering. In February this year it was announced that BT had paid $1.46 billion (£960 million) for two of the seven Premier League football packages with Sky paying Sky paid $6.4 billion (£4.2 billion) for the other five. BT has also added Netflix and a new download store for films and box sets.
