EVOLVE 43 RESULTS FROM QUEENS, NY
By Shawn Buckley on 2015-05-31 13:28:43
Evolve 43 went down as a historic night for the Evolve family debuting at La Boom in Queens, New York and the night where two Dragon Gate USA championships were vacated and retired leading the way for new titles. I'll get into that in the results.
La Boom I thought was a really good place for Evolve last night the lighting was very good and the atmosphere in general was awesome. The fans showed up and sold out the place. I prefer The Elks Lodge but that's me. I could see Evolve running La Boom again in the near future.... The show started at 6:45 because of the FTW show that ran late there before it but we still got a great show despite waiting outside for an hour.
Attendance was less then 150, not sure how many though. I am not good with numbers. Here's the match results:
1. Rey Horus defeated Anthony Nese. So Cal Val came out with Konley and Nese and was pissed that they lost the DGUSA Tag titles at Evolve 42 in Florida. She said it was a travesty they weren't champions but this would be their weekend they would get back to normal. Match was very entertaining and and a nice opener. Rey Horus is really proving himself in the WWNLive family. After Nese lost, he and Konley got into a shoving match. It looks like we could see Nese vs. Konley down the line. BTW So Cal Val is hotter in person, Good Lord!
2. Davey Richards defeated Caleb Konley. This match was epic to the max. They really went all out in this one. Plenty of nearfalls with Davey getting the final pin. Davey got on the mic afterwards and said that if So Cal Val took her shirt off they would talk business. The crowd popped for that one. Then he said he's working his way up the rankings and wants an Evolve title shot next. Davey is just awesome as always.
3. TJ Perkins defeated Mike Bailey. This was a solid technical match, nothing too crazy, but it was really solid. TJ was doing MMA style in this match, sort of. Bailey looked great. His standing Red Arrow is something you have to see, for sure.
4. Chris Hero defeated Trevor Lee. Awesome, awesome match. Wow this was just as great as their PWG match a few months back. I was very excited to see this match live and it delivered big time. The crowd loved every minute of it. Hero hit Lee with three elbows and he still wouldn't go down. Finally a tombstone piledriver put Lee away to end the match. Both really appreciated all the crowd clapping for them they hugged each other too. Fun stuff here I would highly recommend watching.
5. Johnny Gargano and Rich Swann defeated Drew Gulak and his new protege, which was Tracy Williams, to retain the Dragon Gate USA Open The United Gate Tag Team championships. It was one hell of a tag team title match, with some crazy insane spots and just all around fun wrestling. I love Gargano and Swann as a tag team. Gulak and Williams fought well too. After the match Gargano and Swann got on the mic saying facing men like that is why they love pro wrestling. Gargano said Dragon Gate USA is now the past, which the crowd kinda grumbled at a little bit. He then said it's time to look towards the future, which is why they were vacating and retiring their Titles. They want The Evolve World Tag Team titles now. It looks like Dragon Gate USA is definitely over.
6. Drew Galloway defeated Biff Busick to retain the Dragon Gate USA Open The Freedom Gate Championship. you know what Drew is tall in person. He looks like he could pick everybody up with his hand. The crowd was very pro Biff in this one and was I hoping he would win. They started off brawling into the crowd and ended up going to the entrance of La Boom. Drew threw Biff through a door, which was insane live, even breaking down a barricade. The action in the ring was a lot of fun, with Biff refusing to give up until Drew put him down for the 3 count. Drew got on the mic after saying that was an excellent match with Biff tonight. He loves facing guys like that. He put over his final match with Roderick Strong tonight at Evolve 44 on Long Island, saying the feud that started in New York will now end in New York and he hopes Roddy is ready. Johnny Gargano came out and said he wanted Rrew to retire the DGUSA Title, which he refused to do and said if he gets the title he can do whatever he wants with it but he has to take the title off of him first. Johnny also said tomorrow he puts away Ethan page for good. Great way to end a great show in queens.
Overall it was a fun show. The crowd was lively all night long.
