Netflix Content Chief Ted Sarandos To Be Feted By Italy’s Ischia Global Fest
ROME — Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos will be feted by Italy’s Ischia Global Film and Music Fest with its “Ischia Global Legend Award” in recognition of his contributions in creating the world’s first Internet TV Network, organizers said.
The announcement was made by fest founder and producer Pascal Vicedomini, who is an Italo TV journo, and by Los Angeles-based producer Mark Canton, who is honorary chairman of the fest held on the Italo isle off the coast of Naples, which will run July 11-19.
“We are honored that Ted Sarandos, one of the world’s most influential entertainment industry executives, will be joining us in Ischia in July as we celebrate the ‘genius’ behind a media revolution,” enthused Vicedomini in a statement.
“Ted Sarandos is an entertainment industry icon, and an unstoppable force of nature,” added Canton.
“I know first-hand that he is a content powerhouse with unequalled skills in identifying, nurturing and creating for Netflix some of the world’s finest and most innovative programming featuring some of the world’s greatest talent,” continued his praise.
Under Sarandos’ guidance Netflix has produced shows including “House of Cards,” “Bloodline” and “Orange Is the New Black,” as well as cutting-edge docus and standup comedy. Feature films are expected soon.
Netflix is expected to disembark in Italy later this year, probably in October.
The Ischia fest is a sister event to Capri Hollywood. Both are conceived as bridge-building meets between Hollywood and the Italian and European film industries where attendees can network informally while enjoying splendid locations and luxurious accommodations.
Other attendees expected to be joining Sarandos this year include Trudie Styler, Avi Lerner, Paula Wagner, Aurelio De Laurentiis, and Italian icons Tony Renis, Franco Nero, and Lina Wertmuller.
