deadline.com/2015/05/supergirl-leak-online-piracy-cbs-dc-comics-video-1201431621/CBS’ ‘Supergirl’ Latest Superhero Project To Leak Online A high-quality copy of the pilot for CBS’ new drama series Supergirl leaked to pirate sites early this morning according to German all-things-piracy-tracking firm Excipio. The news immediately made CBS look 15 years younger/hipper. Piracy is a serious issue and don’t try it at home. CBS and Warner Bros Television decline to comment. The leak comes about six months before the series is set to debut in November on Monday nights, according to the primetime schedule CBS unveiled at Carnegie Hall to press, media buyers and station execs during Upfront Week. Excipio reports the pirated pilot turned up around 3 AM ET today, and does not appear to have watermarks. Excipio’s report was first reported in this country by sister publication Variety. Some cynics, and we’re sorry to report that such people do exist, suggested the leak might be part of the marketing campaign for the latest superhero Hollywood superhero project (If that’s the case: Mission Accomplished based on all the press pickup this morning). “I still have a hunch it’s DC leaking it on purpose as a way to gauge fan reaction early,” one such Debbie Dubious suggested on Reddit, noting the same thing happened to CW’s The Flash. “And Flash is still a major success,” chimed in another Reddit pundit. In fact, The Flash became CW’s most-watched series premiere ever, outranking CW’s heavyweight program The Vampire Diaries with a prelim Live+7 audience of 6.8 million watchers. At that time, the series premiere had been seen more than 13 million times across all platforms. Back then, industry navel lint gazers called the launch doubly impressive, given the pilot leak. In June of ’14, that pilot leaked online three months before it was due to debut, triggering important online discussions about piracy, such as: “The Flash pilot episode leaked today… so, does it suck?” Based on characters published by DC Entertainment, The Flash is produced by Bonanza Productions in association with Berlanti Prods and Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, David Nutter and Sarah Schechter executive produce. In marked contrast, Supergirl, is based on the characters from DC Comics Supergirl, is co-created and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, written by Berlanti, Ali Adler and Andrew Kreisberg, from WBTV and studio-based Berlanti Prods. Here’s is CBS’ official trailer unveiled after its upfront presentation:
