Cannes: Saban Films Buys John Travolta's 'I Am Wrath' for North America
Saban Films has picked up the North American rights to John Travolta's action-thriller I Am Wrath, directed by Chuck Russell (The Mask, Scorpion King).
Hannibal Classics struck the deal with Saban at the Cannes film market, where a teaser and other promotional materials were touted to buyers. Christopher Meloni, Sam Trammell, Amanda Schull and Rebecca De Mornay also star.
I Am Wrath, now in post-production, tells the story of unemployed engineer Stanley Hill (Travolta), who witnesses the murder of his wife Vivian (De Mornay), who was attacked by thugs in a parking garage. Wracked with guilt, Stanley is haunted by the image of Vivian dying in his arms. When Detective Gibson (Trammell) is unable to bring the killers to justice, Stanley turns to his old friend Dennis (Meloni) and decides to take matters into his own hands.
The film has sold in a number of key foreign territories, including the U.K., China, Latin and South America, Australia/New Zealand, France, Spain, Poland, Portugal, the Middle East and the Phillippines. Hannibal anticipates being fully sold out by the end of Cannes.
Patriot fully financed I Am Wrath. Producers are Michael Mendelsohn, Rob Carliner, Richard Salvatore and Nick Vallelonga, with Hannibal’s Richard Rionda Del Castro and Patricia Eberle executive producing.
“Travolta is perfect in this film,” said Del Castro. “He presents as a family man that you would not want to cross."
Earlier at Cannes, Saban struck a deal with Lionsgate for domestic rights to A Hologram for the King, starring Tom Hanks.
