variety.com/2015/film/asia/china-box-office-ultron-1201500316/“Avengers: Age of Ultron” replaced “Furious 7” at the top of the Chinese box office, with another blistering start. Handled by state-owned China Film Group and Huaxia Distribution and released on Monday, May 11, “Ultron” took $155 million in six days. It sold 24.5 million tickets at a mean $6.5 apiece, according to tracking service Ent Group. Indications are that it enjoyed a further $7.8 million on Monday. “Ultron” was so far ahead of the competition that it took over 90% of the nationwide box office. The following nine films had a combined $14.8 billion over the week. Second placed “Chappie” took $3.46 million for a cumulative of $13.7 million after 10 days. Third placed, Chinese film “You Are My Sunshine” took $2.85 million to lift its 18 day total to $55.3 million. Fourth place ‘The Left Ear” took $2.06 million, to nudge its cumulative to $76.9 million. “Furious 7” appears to have been stopped in its tracks. It earned $1.49 million to reach $391 million after 36 days.
