Lockport, New York, will be getting a new comic shop this summer: Pulp716, a combination comic shop and cafe that will feature not only comics and graphic novels but also coffee, bubble tea, and baked goods from a variety of bakers.

A unique blend of coffee and comic books is coming to Lockport.
Pulp 716, a comic book cafe is expected to open in June, according to store owner Jay Berent. The store will feature "a full line of new comic books, graphic novels, merchandise, and clothing as well as Bubble Tea, coffee, and treats from the finest bakers we could find," according to its website, www.Pulp716.com .
The store will be managed by Berent's wife, Amy. "Her experience as an entrepreneur, owning her own make-up art and special FX company, has proven to be priceless," said Berent, whose full-time job is with Niagara County.
While the store's hours are not yet set in stone, Berent said they're planning on being open later than many Main Street businesses. "We want to give people something to do in the evening hours. We will have traditional comic shop hours and we'll be open evenings until nine and a little later on Friday and Saturday."
Now the ENP contributor will be opening his own coffee shop with a focus
on comics.
Berent, East Niagara Post's resident food critic, said he's still working out details with food suppliers but knows that Cream & Sugar Cafe will be a part of the mix. "Jessica (Dittly) has some unique ideas and we'll carry items that will be exclusive to our shop."
Always looking for an interesting spin on things, Berent says the shop will have a record play with an assortment of albums for people to choose from — or customers are free to bring their own.
Kevin Sinnott, author of various coffee books and founder of the New York City & Chicago coffee conventions, has been brought on board as the store's official consultant.
"He has created our exclusive historical roasts that are unlike anything out there now," Berent said. "It's surreal that a gentleman that has appeared on Oprah is working on creating our product."
Pulp 716 will be located at 45 East Avenue in the former Jayne & Company.
