Andrew Walter, who has worked on deals with MGM and other media and entertainment entities as managing director at investment outfit Evolution Media Partners, has joined the studio in the newly created position of EVP Corporate Development. He will report to chairman and CEO Gary Barber and work with him on corporate and business development, acquisitions, investments and strategic transactions as it continues to ramp up its film and TV slates.
Before joining parent Evolution Media Capital in 2013, Walter spent 14 years at global investment banking firm Houlihan Lokey, providing financial restructuring, M&A, financing and valuation advisory services. In addition to MGM, he has worked with Blockbuster, Deluxe, Comcast, Endemol, The Mark Gordon Company, Marvel Studios, Panavision, Paramount Pictures, Revolution Studios, Disney and Warner Bros among others.
“Andrew is a consummate professional with unique experience developing and solidifying corporate transactions and building precisely the types of deals and partnerships we are looking for at MGM,” said Barber. “I have enjoyed doing business with him in the past and know that he will be a valuable asset to our team.”
MGM has the Reese Witherspoon-Sofia Vergara comedy Hot Pursuit (with New Line) hitting theaters on May 8 and the Poltergeist redo (with Fox) starring Sam Rockwell and Rosemary DeWitt on May 22. Its latest Bond pic, Spectre, is due out on November 6, and among its film projects in the works are Ben-Hur with Paramount, a new The Magnificent Seven with Columbia and Barbershop 3 with New Line/Warner Bros. On the TV side, it just formed United Artists Media Group with Mark Burnett, Roma Downey and Hearst, and its current series include Teen Wolf, Vikings, Fargo and Paternity Court.
