Maker Studios Will Develop Online Videos With Marvel And Other Disney Units
Like other digital video providers, Maker Studios is using its NewFront presentation in New York this morning to introduce new shows. But the short-form content specialist is especially eager to highlight its alliances — including with parent Disney, advertiser data services, and celebs such as designer Rachel Zoe, actress Taryn Southern, comedian Lisa Schwartz, and web-series star Meghan Camarena (a/k/a Strawburry17).
Maker will team with Disney-owned Marvel to develop videos that are based on its comic “lore and current releases” and celebrate “the global Marvel fan universe.” With ESPN it will “deliver cutting edge content year-round” built around the action sport X Games. And with ABC’s Lincoln Square Productions, Maker will “collaborate on nonfiction storytelling around politics and culture” including an original, American Women, described as an “irreverent docu-series about the women who made America great.” Other upcoming productions will be linked to the 2016 election campaign.
To make it all pay off, Maker will tell advertisers that it will partner with agency DigitasLBi to develop “an industry-first opportunity” to use audience data and co-create “content, production, cross-platform distribution, and media.” It also will work with Outrigger Media to provide data about viewers as well as “brand safety” and “subject matter expertise” — plus guarantees for demographic targeting, similar to what TV networks offer.
Maker also has an alliance with Latino digital service MiTú and Starcom MediaVest Group’s LiquidThread to develop what they call “original series, social media programs and influencer formats.”
As for original content, Maker’s plans include: a coming-of-age story, Camp; a show about fashion, Fashpad; discussions of food, Fast Or Fancy; a sequel to mini-series The Look Of Knowing tentatively called (what else?) The Look Of Knowing : Part 2; fairy tales re-imagined as music videos, Maker Tales; a musical-themed animated series, Nursery Rhyme Mashups; a scripted comedy about an overachieving superstar, Party Girl; an anthology for gamers, Polaris Animated Universe; a late night “interactive digital experiment,” The Taryn Show ; a scripted series about two narcissistic friends, This Is Why You’re Single; a comedy with adults commenting on kids’ behavior, Toddler Tonight; a live-action comdey featuring “unboxing superstar EvanTube,” Toy Detective; a semi-scripted mocumentary, Traveling Band; and a look at how to become a YouTube star, I Am Maker.
