HONG KONG – Retro-horror film “Rigor Mortis” by first time director Juno Mak scared up solid sales business at the recent American Film Market for seller Fortissimo Films. The picture was licensed to Japanese major Shochiku for a mid 2014 release and to Ascot Elite for Germany, Austria and Switzerland, its first sales in West Europe. AFM also saw Fortissimo complete deals with Viswas Films for India and the subcontinent, with Distribucion de Peliculas Zatmeni for Mexico and to Solar Films for The Philippines. The title, which revives the comedy horror styles of Hong Kong vampire horror pics from the 1970s and 1980s was previously licensed to Well Go USA for a theatrical release in Spring 2014. Already on release in Hong Kong, the film has proved very much undead, with a cumulative total of HK$17.5 million ($2.23 million) in four weeks. In Taiwan it opened as the top newcomer last week and after ten days has accumulated NT$13 million (US$400,000). The film premiered at Venice and Toronto and has also played the Sitges and London festivals. Attachments:
