‘99 Homes,’ ‘A Walk in the Woods’ Set for September Releases
Broad Green Pictures has given awards season release dates to Robert Redford comedy “A Walk in the Woods” and Andrew Garfield’s thriller “99 Homes.”
Ramin Bahrani’s “99 Homes” will be released on Sept. 25. Broad Green bought the film last September following screenings and strong reviews at the Venice, Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals.
Garfield plays a construction worker evicted from his home by a real estate broker (played by Michael Shannon) and forced to move his mother (Laura Dern) and young son into a shabby motel. He then goes to work for the broker and must evict honest families from their homes.
“A Walk in the Woods,” starring Redford and Nick Nolte, will bow Sept. 2. It debuted at Sundance and is directed by Ken Kwapis; co-stars are Emma Thompson, Mary Steenburgen, Nick Offerman and Kristen Schaal.
Broad Green, operated by brothers Gabriel and Daniel Hammond as a production-distribution concern, has been on an ambitious course for the past year, aggressively acquiring rights to adult-oriented titles. It bought 45% of sales company Mister Smith Entertainment in February.
It made its first dating announcements Wednesday, setting Mia Hansen-Love’s “Eden” for June 19. The film is set amid the 1990s Parisian electronic dance movement experienced through the eyes of DJ group Cheers and Daft Punk.
Broad Green set a July 10 release for Carlos Marques-Marcet’s “10,000 KM,” centered on a long-distance romance set in Los Angeles and Barcelona. It will release comedy “Learning to Drive,” starring Patricia Clarkson and Ben Kingsley, on Aug. 21.
Broad Green will also release tennis comedy “Break Point,” starring Jeremy Sisto and David Walton as estranged brothers, on Sept. 4. J.K. Simmons, Amy Smart, Joshua Rush and Adam Devine also star.
Broad Green is also planning to release Olivier Nakache’s drama “Samba” and three films from Terrence Malick — “Knight of Cups,” “Voyage of Time” and an as-yet-untitled project starring Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Michael Fassbender — along with Sarah Silverman’s “I Smile Back,” which premiered in competition at Sundance.
BGP has also closed a deal on James Napier Robertson’s “The Dark Horse” with Seville Pictures International. The film is based based on the life of chess champion Genesis Potini.
