PARIS — French publicist Agnes Hannah Goldman has partnered up with Gallic filmmaker Emmanuel Sapolsky and Chinese up-and-coming actress Xin Wang to launch Drunken Dragon, a London-based production and sales company that will introduce its first slate at Mip TV.
Drunken Dragon will mainly focus on projects boasting Asian elements due to Wang’s ties to the Asian market. The shingle will launch sales on the second season of Chinese show “X-Model,” which turned out to be a hit on the digital platform Youku, scoring more than 70 million views. Comprising 10 episodes, the series is a dramedy shot between Shanghai and Paris and starring Wang as a model who sees her career prospects plummet and her problems build up as she turns 30.
The show has been selected to have its French premiere at Series Mania, the one-week festival dedicated to TV skeins set to take place in Paris in late April. Drunken Dragon produced the second season with Youku and is handling international sales. Goldman said the company is already in advanced talks to acquire the series and/or the format.
“We’re interested in short-format series made for the Web because there’s a high demand for this type of content as it appeals to the millennial generation and can be consumed on tablets, phones, etc.,” said Goldman, an experienced and well-connected publicist and marketing expert who worked for MGM and United Artists for 16 years via her own PR company Personality.
In addition to “X-Model,” Drunken Dragon is also developing “China Shalom” and “Monica’s List.” A short-format Web series penned by Sapolsky and Wang, “Monica’s List” centers on a Chinese girl who leaves everything behind to achieve her dream of becoming a renowned wine steward in Paris.
“China Shalom,” to be directed by Sapolsky, is a comedy about a New York Jew who travels to China in search of a cure for his asthma and experiences a culture clash and unexpectedly falls in love with a local girl, who gets him to save the family restaurant in the city of Tianjin.
The company will soon be sourcing new talents, including writers and directors, to develop more projects, Goldman said.
