spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2015/04/09/brad-bird-has-begun-writing-the-incredibles-2/Brad Bird Has Begun Writing ‘The Incredibles 2′ As excited as some Pixar fans may be for “Toy Story 4″ and “Finding Dory,” what we’re really looking forward to is the sequel to “The Incredibles.” And now we have the first real update since, well, the project was confirmed more than a year ago: Writer/director Brad Bird has begun work on the script. “It’s percolating,” he told NPR. “Yeah, I mean, I’m just starting to write it, so we’ll see what happens.” OK, it’s not a major update, but at this point we’re willing to accept whatever crumbs we can get. After all, it’s been more than 11 years since “The Incredibles” arrived in theaters. So now we can add this tidbit to Samuel L. Jackson’s belief that he’ll return as Frozone and rumors that Jack-Jack could be the villain for the sum total of all we know about the sequel. (via The Playlist)

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he refused to spill any plot details, but did offer a small update on the sequel to the original 2004 film. “It’s very actively moving, and we’re excited about it,” he shared. “[We’re] trying to take it in some new directions.” “Hopefully it’s the same characters and feel, but going in a new direction,” he added. “I mean, that’s the trick with a sequel. It’s repeating yourself, without repeating yourself.” Back in 2004, the original “Incredibles” movie was part of a very different cinematic landscape, where the “X-Men” franchise was just getting started and Tobey Maguire played Spider-Man. Now, superhero films are the king of the box office, with movies like “Captain America: Civil War” raking in over $1 billion at the international box office. When “Incredibles 2” hits theaters on June 21, 2019, it will go up against a host of new superhero films: “Captain Marvel,” “Shazam,” the “Justice League” sequel, and the fourth “Avengers” movie, which are all also slated for release that year.
