WWE Studios & Richwater Films Pin Two-Picture Deal
WWE Studios has joined forces with British financing and production outfit Richwater Films for a deal in which the companies will share funding and production on two upcoming action films. The news comes a week after the deal between Kiss bassist Gene Simmons and the WWE to launch a horror label.
The partnership’s first film is Eliminators, a Taken riff about a former federal agent who, after his home is invaded and his daughter’s life imperiled, leaves witness protection and finds himself pursued across Europe by deadly assassins. Directed by James Nunn (Tower Block, Green Street 3), it stars Scott Adkins (Expendables II), and five-time WWE Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett. Principal photography is set to begin in London in late spring.
The partnership’s second film is Rampage, in which an American counterterrorism operative teams up with an MI5 agent to hunt a terrorist menacing London. Currently in development, no director or cast has been announced, but production is planned to begin in late 2o15.
“Having watched WWE programming since the 1991 Royal Rumble and regarding Vince McMahon as the ultimate entrepreneurial pioneer, I am thrilled to be in business with WWE Studios,” Richwater CEO and founder Jonathan Sothcott said in a statement. Added Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios: “As a major new player on the British Independent film scene, Richwater Films exudes a professional zeal that is highly compatible with the work we do here at WWE Studios. Both of our organizations are dedicated to creating films that engage and excite.”
Worldwide rights for both films will be handled by WWE Studios, which will market the films using platforms ranging from Monday Night Raw and Smackdown to digital and social media.
