EuropaCorp TV USA Sets ‘These Final Hours’ Series Adaptation, Sniper Drama
Ten months after French studio EuropaCorp (Taxi Brooklyn) signaled an expansion into development and production for the American TV market with the appointment of producer Matthew Gross as President of EuropaCorp Television, U.S., the company has put together two drama projects, pre-apocalyptic thriller These Final Hours and Bulletproof, about a sniper-turned-assassin. Both are developed with an eye toward a straight-to-series model, with Gross (Body of Proof) executive producing.
These Final Hours is a TV series adaptation of the recently released Australian feature. EuropaCorp Television USA has acquired the TV rights to the movie, which premiered at last year’s Cannes Director Fortnight. The film’s writer/director Zak Hilditch is on board to write, direct and executive produce the project, which will be developed internally at EuropaCorp TV USA as a spec for cable.
In These Final Hours, the Earth is hit by an asteroid, and it is determined that the world will implode in seven days. It’s every man for himself, as we follow eight characters and see what they will do with their remaining time on Earth.
Bulletproof is a pitch, which also is being developed as a spec for either cable or broadcast. Written by Corey Miller, with whom Gross previously worked on ABC drama Body of Proof, Bulletproof is about a complicated former female marine sniper, turned assassin, who is hired to kill someone who turns out to be innocent. When she finds out the truth, she turns the tables on the person who ordered the hit. Miller serves as executive producer/showrunner.
Projects about snipers/former snipers have been very much in the cultural zeitgeist recently on the heels of the blockbuster success of the movie American Sniper. NBC just ordered a sniper miniseries The Reaper.
Miller is repped by UTA and attorney David Fox. Hilditch is repped by Paradigm, Thruline Entertainment, HLA Management and Frankfurt, Kurnit, Klein & Selz.
On the feature side, EuropaCorp is financing, producing and distributing a slate which includes Shut In, starring Naomi Watts, The Lake, starring Sullivan Stapleton and JK Simmons, and Nine Lives, starring Kevin Spacey and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld.
