Hulu Orders ‘The Way’ Family Drama Series About Faith From Jason Katims
Hulu has ordered its first drama series, giving a 10-episode straight-to-series order to The Way, a drama series from creator Jessica Goldberg, Jason Katims’ True Jack Productions and Universal Television.
The Way examines a family at the center of a controversial faith–based movement struggling with relationships, marriage and power. Each hourlong episode takes an in-depth look at what it means to choose between the life we live and the life we want. “Jason Katims and Jessica Goldberg have delivered a provocative take on a controversial, dangerous and thrilling world,” said Hulu head of content Craig Erwich.
The Way, a very personal project for playwright-screenwriter Goldberg, stems from Katims and Goldberg’s work together on Katims’ NBC series, Parenthood, on which she served as a writer-producer. It was developed as a spec at True Jack by the company’s Katims and Michelle Lee who executive produce alongside Goldberg. The Way, eyed for a summer production start and December debut, marks the first original series for Hulu from corporate sibling Universal TV. It also marks Katims’ first show not sold to a broadcast network. The writer-producer behind Friday Night Lights and Parenthood currently is executive producing NBC comedy series About A Boy.
The Way joins Hulu’s original programming slate of upcoming shows: event series 11/22/63 from Stephen King and J.J. Abrams starring James Franco; comedy series Difficult People produced by Amy Poehler with stars Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner; Casual, a comedy series from director Jason Reitman; and the first longform project from Freddie Wong and the RocketJump team.
Goldberg is repped by UTA and attorney Jeff Frankel. Katims and True Jack Productions are repped by CAA and attorney Ira Schreck.
