SHOULD THERE BE A DISTRIBUTOR THAT HANDLES COMIC PROJECTS THAT ARE BORN ON KICKSTARTER?
Yes. I think there is room for a distributor that solicits comic book shops with the second print run of a project that was originally financed on Kickstarter.com.Most of the stuff on Kickstarter is by artists and writers that want control of their projects and it also serves books that will not meet Diamond Comics standard for sales. Think about it. There is only ONE comic book distributor in North America that controls more than 90% of the market. It dictates prices and what you can read, based on their criteria of what will sell. That is complete bullshit. There is room for another player. Marvel, DC and the other major publishers all have exclusive contracts with Diamond for years to come. This anti-trust law is complete BS because it should have broke up the monopoly already. That is the main reason why I think comics are in bad shape.Only one place to get new books. Would you settle to eat at only one restaurant? No. The only place for a new distributor to get books from is the independents who get turned down by Diamond and the Kickstarter projects. Let's crowdfund a indie distributor!!!
