OddLot Nabs Rights to Emotional True Story 'Gizelle's Bucket List'
In a highly competitive situation, OddLot Entertainment has nabbed the rights to Gizelle's Bucket List, a touching true story about a woman who takes her dying dog on a list of trips.
The powerfully emotional tale of Lauren Fern Watt, a 25-year-old New Yorker, and her 160-pound English Mastiff, Gizelle, came to light earlier this year. When Watt found out her beloved dog had terminal bone cancer, she set out to take him on a series of special adventures in his final few months. They canoed, went to Times Square, found the best donuts in the world, sat on the beach in winter and people-watched in Washington Square Park.
After Watt first wrote about her journey with Gizelle for Yahoo in January, the story went viral around the Internet. She is now working on a book version of her story, and OddLot, which is financing and producing, has optioned the rights to both the Yahoo piece and the work-in-progress book.
Sources say OddLot won out on the project among strong competition from several studios and other production companies. Daniel Dubiecki and Lara Alameddine, who brought the material to OddLot, will produce via their Allegiance Theater banner with Gigi Pritzker and OddLot.
