Lakeshore, STX Entertainment's Horror Film 'The Boy' Sets Cast
STX Entertainment and Lakeshore Entertainment's horror film The Boy has rounded out its cast as production kicks off. Joining Walking Dead actress Lauren Cohan are Jim Norton (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets), Diana Hardcastle (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel), Ben Robson (Vikings), Rupert Evans (Hellboy) and James Russell (Blue Bloods).
The film centers on a young American woman (Cohan) who, looking to escape a troubled past, takes a job in a small English village as a nanny for a wealthy couple’s (Norton and Hardcastle) 8-year-old son while they take a vacation. But she soon finds that things are very off with this couple, who are much older than she expected. Their real son had recently passed away, so she's put in charge of caring for a lifelike porcelain doll that the couple treats as a real child. She enlists the only person she's seen in the remote manor's town -- a local grocery delivery man -- to help her unravel the dark mystery surrounding the couple.
Robson is playing a Cole, Cohan's character's boyfriend, while Russell plays a character named James. Evans will play the grocery delivery man.
William Brent Bell (The Devil Inside) is directing the project, which has begun production, shooting in Victoria, British Columbia, and the surrounding community.
Written by Stacey Menear, The Boy is being produced by Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi, Roy Lee, Matt Berenson and Jim Wedaa. Adam Fogelson's STX Entertainment recently came onboard to distribute, setting the film for release nationwide on Jan. 22, 2016.
Norton's recent credits include Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Water for Elephants and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. The Tony and Olivier Award winner is repped by Lou Coulson Associates in the UK and Principal Entertainment LA.
Hardcastle appeared in both The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and its sequel The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, now in theaters. She’s wrapped work on Jenny's Wedding, starring Katherine Heigl. She’s repped by CDA in the UK.
This is the first major movie role for Robson since moving to L.A. to kick start his career. The British actor is currently playing Kalf, new lead castmember on the third season of History Channel's popular series Vikings. The rising star's previous film credits include 2013's Dracula: The Dark Prince, and he's repped by UTA and Management 360.
Evans made his feature film debut with Hellboy. His TV credits include Rogue and BBC’s The Village. He’s repped by Paradigm, Curtis Brown Group in the UK and Principal Entertainment LA.
Russell has appeared on Blue Bloods and Deception. He’s repped by Meg Pantera The Agency.
