Universal Cable Productions has signed an overall deal with reality television producer Charlie Ebersol.
The pact, announced Tuesday by UCP exec vice president of development, Dawn Olmstead, marks the first-ever overall deal for Ebersol’s production banner The Company in scripted television.
With UCP, Ebersol will venture further into scripted programming, developing and producing scripted series for NBCUniversal’s portfolio of networks, plus external and digital networks.
“Charlie Ebersol amazes me,” said Olmstead. “He has his hand in all areas of pop culture in very relevant ways. He’s a big thinker with big ideas who looks at our business from a unique perspective. Meetings with Charlie run the gamut from sports to politics and he is incredibly versed in both..”
Ebersol commented, “As The Company has expanded into feature film and scripted television, we’ve placed a premium on partners who instinctively seek to do big things while always producing content that creates joy, happiness and change. UCP exemplifies that.”
Ebersol, founder and CEO of The Company, created CNBC’s “The Profit,” USA Network’s documentary “NFL Characters Unite” and served as exec producer on TNT’s “The Great Escape.”
UCP has also inked overall deals with Charlize Theron‘s Denver & Delilah Films, Jessica Biel’s Iron Ocean Films, Steve Carell’s Carousel Television, Gale Anne Hurd’s (“The Walking Dead”) Valhalla Entertainment, and Benderspink, which is producing a “Dreadstar” superhero series for the production company with comic book legend Jim Starlin.
