Spike TV has partnered with Legendary Pictures to develop an original scripted series, “Emergency Broadcast,” the cabler announced Tuesday.
The medical drama will follow a group of government first responders who confront the planet’s most fantastic crises and disasters to combat national and global catastrophes.
The idea for “Emergency Broadcast” comes from Thomas Tull, chairman and CEO of Legendary. The project will enlist the country’s most sought-after crises leaders as consultants on the series, which marks the reunion between Legendary and longtime collaborator Max Brooks, author of “World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War” and “Zombie Survival Guide,” who will also serve as a consultant.
Spike TV’s Sharon Levy, exec vice president of original series; Ted Gold, senior vice president of scripted original series; and Justin Lacob, vice president of original series will oversee the project.
Among other new series orders at Spike TV is “Sweat Inc.,” starring Jillian Michaels, announced Tuesday. The unscripted competition, produced by 3 Ball Entertainment, features Michaels as host and judge of 12 aspiring fitness entrepreneurs who have to prove they’ve created the most groundbreaking exercise program. The project, slated to premiere this fall and begin production in summer, was given a 10-episode order.
The cable net also announced the pickup of eight additional episodes of “Lip Sync Battle,” bringing the series to a total of 18. The new competition premieres April 2, and will feature celebrity performers Emily Blunt, Anne Hathaway, Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Justin Bieber, Queen Latifah, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Mike Tyson, Terry Crews, Jimmy Fallon, Anna Kendrick, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, John Krasinski and more.
