variety.com/2015/biz/news/homer-simpson-hologram-lawsuit-against-fox-settled-1201442620/A hologram company says it has settled its lawsuit against 20th Century Fox over the studio’s use of a hologram of Homer Simpson during a Comic-Con panel last year featuring the creator of “The Simpsons,” Matt Groening. Groening and the hologram of Simpson talked on stage for about two minutes at the panel on July 26, with Groening’s iconic cartoon character projected in a lifelike illusion. But Hologram USA claimed in a lawsuit filed in August that it held exclusive rights to patents on the technology, and that Fox and “Simpsons” producer Gracie Films did not obtain a license. Fox, however, sought a court declaration that it either did not infringe on the patents or that the patents were invalid, or both. Alki David, CEO of Hologram USA, said in a statement: “I am very happy with the settlement. As the world leader in dynamic holographic 3D technology, Hologram USA has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment. We hope to add Homer Simpson and Fox to that list.” A spokesman for Fox confirmed the settlement. Terms were not disclosed. Hologram USA said in court documents that it acquired exclusive rights to the patents from Musion Das Hologram Limited and Uwe Maass. David has been involved in litigation with Fox over his FilmOn TV service. Fox sued for providing livestreams without authorization.
