66 years ago today in 1949, before being adopted as Richard Morgan Fliehr, Ric Flair was born Fred Phillips (or possibly another name, depending on the record you look at) and placed under the care of the Tennessee Children's Home Society, which ran a black market adoption ring. They especially made a habit of preying on young, single mothers, telling them that their baby was stillborn, or being held for safekeeping, or some other lie to get them to sign adoption papers that the agency claimed was something else. This went on until an investigation in 1950, after about 5,000 cases.
