The 22nd edition of the SXSW Film Festival will screen a total of 150 features, consisting of 102 world premieres, 14 North American premieres and 11 U.S. premieres, with 62 first-time directors along with 106 shorts. The 256 films were selected from a record number of overall submissions, 2,426 features and 4935 shorts, with an overall increase of 13% over 2014. SXSW has also added the world premiere of French action comedy “Moonwalkers” to its narrative spotlight session. Antoine Bardou-Jacquet directs from Dean Craig’s script; Ron Perlman, Rupert Grint and Robert Sheehan star. The festival also added the North American premiere of “Kings of Nowhere,” directed by Betzabe Garcia, about three families in a village partially submerged by water in northwestern Mexico. Other special events include “Doug Loves Movies,” a discussion with Doug Benson; the directors cut of “Human Highway” from Dean Stockwell and Neil Young; a presentation from NASA about its initiatives in the film festival world; and a screening of “Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation,” with Eric Zala directing a shot-for-shot remake of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” made by teenagers in Mississippi in the 1980s.
