deadline.com/2015/02/cbs-laces-up-live-premier-boxing-champions-series-1201375556/CBS Laces Up Live ‘Premier Boxing Champions’ Series A month after NBC announced it was bringing live boxing back to primetime network television, CBS is stepping into the ring. The network has signed a multi-year deal with adviser-manager Al Haymon’s Haymon Boxing — the outfit behind the Peacock’s fight deal — for Premier Boxing Champions, a series of Saturday afternoon bouts. Under the pact, Haymon fights also will continue airing on its sister premium channel Showtime. PBC on CBS will answer the bell on April 4 with a WBC light heavyweight championship bout and return in May, June, July and September. The network — which hasn’t had regular live boxing since the Clinton administration — will air as many as eight events in 2015, with others possibly on CBS Sports Network. This is the third TV deal for Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions in the past two months, including the primetime NBC fights and matches on Spike TV. Those deals combine for a minimum of 73 live cards to air on NBC, NBC Sports Network and Spike through 2017. Veteran announcer Al Michaels will host the NBC series, will mark the first boxing on the network since it showed Larry Holmes vs. Carl “The Truth” Williams in 1985.
