Based on the short story by David Constantine and adapted by Haigh, the film was produced by Tristan Goligher at London-based The Bureau. The film’s executive producers are Christopher Collins, Lizzie Francke, Sam Lavender, Tessa Ross, Richard Holmes and Vincent Gadelle. Rampling and Courtenay portray a couple in the middle of preparations for her 45th wedding anniversary when he receives news that the body of his old girlfriend, who died years earlier in a fatal accident in the Swiss Alps, has finally been found. The deal for the film was negotiated by Arianna Bocco from Sundance Selects/IFC Films with Match Factory on behalf of the filmmakers. “45 Years” was financed by the BFI, Film4 and Creative England and co-developed by Film4 and the BFI.
